Masport’s story began in Auckland, New Zealand, in 1910, when the company was founded as a family-owned engineering business. Initially producing vacuum pumps and stationary engines for agriculture, Masport began making hand-operated lawnmowers in 1930 and developed New Zealand’s first petrol-powered lawnmower in 1938.
As Masport’s reputation for engineering and lawn care products grew, so did its presence across the Tasman. By the 1970s, Australia had become an important market for the brand. In 1975, Masport Australia increased sales by 73 per cent and passed the A$1 million mark — a significant milestone in the company’s Australian journey.
Masport’s Australian presence continued to grow through the following decades, with its lawnmowers becoming a familiar sight in Australian homes and gardens. The iconic President name dates back to the 1970s, while the company continued developing new technologies and mower ranges to meet the changing needs of Australian consumers.
